S Collins and Son, a local butcher based on Lindsaybeg Road in Muirhead, has won a prestigious national competition to be crowned Butchers Shop of the Year 2012.ย

The shop, which had previously been announced as a finalist in the Scottish Butcher Shop of the Year category, went head to head with over 200 shops to be crowned the best butchersโ€™ shop in Scotland.ย
S Collins and Son is a member of the Q Guild of Butchers, which promotes traditional craft skills and the highest standard of quality products, and recently won six Gold awards, 3 Silver awards & 1 Bronze award at the Smithfield Awards – The Q Guildโ€™s annual product evaluation โ€“ Gold for its Pork โ€˜nโ€™ Honey Mustard Sausages, Pork โ€˜nโ€™ Leek Sausages, Saltire Burger, Traditional Gourmet Burger, Dry Cured Bacon and its Haggis Pie.ย

Stewart Collins, owner, said: โ€œWeโ€™re thrilled to have received this award and be recognised for our hard work. Winning awards for our products at the Smithfields was great but to win Butcher Shop of the Year really is the icing on the cake.โ€ย
The beauty of shopping at a local company such as S Collins & Son is the variety, range and specialist knowledge they provide โ€“ way and above anything youโ€™d get in a supermarket.ย

As Stewart said: โ€œWeโ€™re constantly reviewing our customer requirements, and we have so much more than just burgers and steaks. People are becoming much more knowledgeable about food, diet and hygiene and weโ€™ve certainly seen a rise in business as people demand finer food and better quality.โ€ย

Organised by the Meat Trades Journal, the Butcherโ€™s Shop of the Year Awards cover butchersโ€™ shops around the country, and aim to highlight the best businesses in butchery, attracting some of the finest operators in the UK.ย

The final was held at the Landmark Hotel in London, on Thursday 22nd November 2012.ย
