Our juicy and tender "big dinner steak", full of marbling.
Porterhouse steaks are cut from the rear end of the short loin and thus include more tenderloin steak, along with (on the other side of the bone) a large strip steak. Therefore, this steak includes a "T"-shaped lumbar vertebra with sections of abdominal internal oblique muscle on each side.
Thicker than most steaks, the Porterhouse is an American favourite, boasting both the fillet and the sirloin on its distinctive bone. This means some of the best flavour the beast has to offer in one enormous steak that's enough to feed two adults comfortably. Ideal for a Saturday night treat or special occasions, be sure to consult our cooking tips for the best finish.
Cook over very high heats, whether over coal or wood, or frying to gain a rich charred exterior.
|Suggested Cooking Instructions||Before cooking, ensure steak is room temperature.
For the perfect medium-rare porterhouse steak, grill for 10-13 minutes for a 1-inch steak, and 14-17 minutes for a 1½ inch steak, turning about 1 minute before the halfway point.
Leave the steak in a warm location for half its cooking time.
We recommend the use of a meat thermometer for the best and safest results.
